Our Alignment Yoga class is influenced by Iyengar Yoga. Named after and developed by B. K. S. Iyengar, is a form of Hatha Yoga that has an emphasis on detail, precision and alignment in the performance of posture (asana) and breath control (pranayama). The development of strength, mobility and stability is gained through the asanas.

B.K.S. Iyengar has systematised over 200 classical yoga poses and 14 different types of Pranayama (with variations of many of them) ranging from the basic to advanced.

This helps ensure that students progress gradually by moving from simple poses to more complex ones and develop their mind, body and spirit through a step-by-step approach.[1]

Alignment Using Props

Iyengar Yoga often makes use of props, such as belts, blocks, and blankets, as aids in performing asanas (postures). The props enable students to perform the asanas correctly, minimising the risk of injury or strain, and making the postures accessible to both young and old.

Iyengar Yoga is firmly based on the traditional eight limbs of yoga as expounded by Patanjali in his Yoga Sutras.

Working with students individually for a more personalized yoga practice, students will be taught the basics of Yoga Alignment in various poses. All students will be taught our basic sequence for warming up the body.

Lots of attention is also paid to core strengthening and stabilizing. Which is essential for a balanced body. We strive to create balance physically, energetically, emotionally and spiritually.

We help the student to understand their imbalances, and together we attempt to create  harmony and balance in the 5 koshas.

With the use of props, a bamboo wall, inversion slings, foam rollers, swiss exercise balls and more, students will be able to maintain postures otherwise not easily attainable.

This class is especially good for people with chronic imbalances as well as injuries.

Learn to unwind the body from the patterns it’s developed over the years. When combined together with Thai Structural Bodywork , students will see amazing results.
